The Rock Eagle Pool Project

The old "Pool One" was closed because it failed to meet the new health requirements due to the age of the facility. Since funding was not available to construct a new pool, Rock Eagle operated with one swimming pool during 2003 and 2004. While it is not the intent of the 4-H program for every camper to be able to swim at the same time, two pools are necessary to allow 1,000 children the opportunity to have two one hour swim periods each day.

The new pool is located between the Callaway Building and the Museum of Natural History and was recently opened for summer camp.

The price for the new pool, bath house, lighting, and fence is $650,000. The Cooperative Extension Service has committed $200,000 for the construction of the new pool and $100,000 will be used from the 4-H Centers generated revenue. The Georgia 4-H Foundation and Georgia 4-H Advisory Council's Centennial Gala Committee pledged the $67,000 in earnings from the 100th Birthday Gala to support the construction of the new pool. 4-H members across the state also contributed by saving their pennies during the Statewide Junior Conference in order to present a cash donation in support of the new swimming pool.

The Georgia 4-H Foundation is soliciting additional funds to help defray the remaining $120,000 unfunded portion of the new pool.
