Bob and Maxine Burton began donating backpacks to each camper attending Burton 4-H Center on Tybee Island in the Summer of 2006. Bob and Maxine, as well as their daughter, Rachael, and son-in-law, Eddie, were in attendance on the first day of camp to personally distribute the backpacks to each of the campers. The thoughtfulness of the Burtons made a significant impact on the experience of each of the campers, camp counselors, agents, and volunteers which were a part of summer camp each week.
Each year the Georgia 4-H Horse Benefit Auction is held in conjunction with the UGA Equine Science Department. Donations of horses are solicited throughout the year to be sold at auction, and proceeds are divided between the Georgia 4-H Horse Program and Equine research at the University of Georgia. The Georgia 4-H Horse Program continues to grow and has been able to keep fees low for participants, junior leaders and adult leaders at Horse School. Auction funds also support the state winning Horse Quiz Bowl Team’s trip to the National Competition - to donate a horse, contact Dr. Gary Heusner at gheusner@uga.edu or 706/542-9092. |
