For more than 50 years, these words have excited
4-Hers at Rock Eagle and encouraged them to apply their very best.
The great tribes of the Rock Eagle Nation have experienced “heap many contests, heap much fellowship, and heap many wonderful memories.” These experiences would not have been possible without the vision of those that created the Rock Eagle 4-H Center, “our dream come true.” Now we, as former counselors, again have a great challenge to meet the needs of the Rock Eagle Nation.
The Need: Cabin Replacement
At the time of construction in 1955, the Rock Eagle 4-H Center cabins were “state of the art.” Over fifty years of use finds us with the need to completely replace all the cabins at a cost of $500,000 each. (See enclosed information about these highly adaptable and improved facilities.) The Georgia 4-H Foundation’s campaign to replace all of the Rock Eagle cabins will total $27 million.
We will seek financial support from a multitude of private and public sources for this effort. And most importantly, we ask you as a former counselor to take a leadership role in raising the initial funds. Our goal is to build four cabins from collective support provided by former Rock Eagle Counselors. A cabin will be located in each of the tribal lands, and a Himbolian/Tribal Council cabin will be built adjacent to Founders Lodge.
How To Take Part
A group of donors has already pledged lead gifts to provide matching funds for constructing the four cabins. This means the impact of your gift is doubled. Your participation now is important, so that we can receive the full amount of these matching dollars to build the counselor cabins.
You should receive a call from your Chief, Princess, Miko, or Tribal Council/Himbolian Coordinator asking that you make a contribution. Every dollar we counselors donate will be matched, so please give generously. Use the enclosed form to send your gift today! Consider making a larger gift by extending your pledge over a three year period. For example, a gift of $1,000 is only $27.77 a month – payable through automatic credit card or bank draft.
All gifts and commitments pledged by August 9th qualify for a 1:1 match from our lead donors. In addition to the matching funds provided by our lead gifts, also consider corporate matches from you and/or your spouse’s employer.
Mark your calendar – and win the Tribal Shield again!
The time is now for you to pledge your support to future generations of Rock Eagle campers. In the spirit of 4-H competition, you can designate credit for your gift to any tribe in which you’ve been a part. This summer on August 9th, we will call all the tribes together at Rock Eagle during 4-H Alumni Weekend. The group that has raised the most money will be awarded the Tribal Shield. For the first time in history, the Himbolians/ Tribal Council have a chance to win!
Our summers at Rock Eagle significantly transformed and influenced our lives. It’s now our turn to provide that life-changing opportunity for those that follow over the next 50 years. Thank you for ensuring that Rock Eagle’s legacy of camping and youth leadership development continues, with your personal gift.
